Kris Gommeren

Dr Kris Gommeren

Kris Gommeren graduated in 2002 at the University of Ghent, where he subsequently completed an internship and a residency in internal medicine. He became a specialist in internal medicine in 2009 and worked briefly in a private referral clinic before moving to the University of Liège to run and develop the emergency and critical care unit there. In 2017 he became a specialist in emergency and critical care and completed his PhD on the influence of systemic inflammation on the cardiovascular system. Kris is the author of numerous peer-reviewed papers and book chapters on emergency and critical care, as well as co-author of a book on point of care ultrasound of the pleural space and lungs. Kris is past president of the European Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society, and co-founder of the European Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Ultrasound interest group. He was the chair of the European Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Congress in Ghent which was hosted at the beginning of June 2022. Finally, he co-founded the Animal Blood Bank Benelux, with which he hopes to make transfusion of blood products accessible and less stressful for his colleagues in the region.
